After a visit to New Mexico in 1980, Santero J. (aka George Bennett) began a love affair with the Santero artistic tradition of the Southwest United States.

A Santero is a religious Hispanic artisan who has created statues paintings and wall hangings suitable for religious devotion from the early 1700’s to the present. The traditional materials include cottonwood root, gesso, tin, natural pigments and “found” materials.

Santero J.  strives to emulate works in this tradition with more contemporary resources, featuring virtuosity of form and exuberant coloration.

Commissions for pieces involving specific subjects and intentions are accepted.
