Artist Statement:

“My work reflects the notions of liminality and the numinous. I have always been drawn to the idea of the “between” spaces that surround us: birth, death, rites of passage, the distances between people, thresholds, the places where day fades into night, where the sea meets the sand, the edge of the forest… the hedgerow. the-knot72

If we look closely, there is always more than meets the eye in these places. They are pathways… doors to other realities… places where anything can, and likely will, happen.”


Biography:

Brette received her BFA in Studio Arts from Ohio University, where she studied painting, printmaking, and fiber arts. Primarily a painter, she has also worked extensively in print and mixed media, as well as recently expanding into sculpture after studying with Lisa Clague. She has exhibited in solo & group shows locally, regionally, and in Ohio and New Jersey. A self-described “mythic” artist, her work is held in private collections throughout the US.

Brette currently lives & creates in Bakersville, NC, with her hero-husband Dan. They are kept company by their menagerie of 6 goats, 4 dogs, 19 chickens, and a 17-year old cat, who rules the homestead.
